Class: Reptilia
Reptiles are four-limbed (except for snakes). They have thicker skin than amphibians making them less susceptible to environmental changes. They do not have a larval stage but hatch from an amniotic egg after initially developing inside the female. Some reptiles are born live, but that's more the exception than the rule. Reptiles are also ectothermic relying on external sources for warmth.
Reptiles are organized into 4 major groups: Squamata (9,600 species), Crocodilia (25 species), Testudines (400 species), and Tuatara (1 species).
